Kate Boxer, Jason Hicklin, Neil Bousfield, Mitsushige Nishiwaki, Clare Halsey
North House Gallery is pleased to present this show of prints, very various in terms of medium and size. The printmakers will be familiar to followers of the gallery but the ceramicist Claire Halsey is new.
Kate Boxer is known for her portraits of random figures that take her fancy: here we have Sergei Diaghilev, James Baldwin, Patsy Cline and Diana Dors. Her portraits of animals, wild and tame, capture the qualities of the particular creatures with an affectionate humour.
Jason Hicklin has made a series of large etchings of London walking back and forth between Hammersmith Bridge and Greenwich Observatory. The city skyline has changed hugely since his 2004 series of small etchings of London bridges, some of which are also available.
Neil Bousfield walks and draws every day along the fragile coast of Norfolk between Happisburgh and Walcott and then in the studio produces original engravings of remarkable complexity and emotional resonance. His latest, more abstract, engravings are elegaic reminders of the loss of familiar land to the sea.
Mitsushige Nishiwaki is a Japanese printmaker who often visits New York, London and Paris and produces quirky coloured etchings of iconic shops, buildings, indeed anything that catches his outsider’s eye. His designs have been taken up by fashion houses and interior designers.
Claire Halsey is a painter who has recently turned to ceramics. Her shapely domestic ware is thrown then textured, using sculpting techniques, to create a distressed, tactile feel, and glazed in soft, natural colours.
Open on Saturdays, 10 am - 5 pm
