Kate Boxer is a woman of immense vitality, kindness and wit. Her work reflects these qualities in being uniquely striking, engaging and memorable. Her depictions of people, animals and birds are always sympathetic and touching but something about her line, which makes them appealing, also makes them amusing. When she adds her own personal jokes, as for instance, ‘I refuse to have a bath until I see the trees’ written beneath a hobo on a crock horse, one laughs without knowing quite why and the joke remains fresh.
Kate Boxer was born in Sussex in 1961 and attended classes in London art schools in the early 1990s. She has exhibited since 1994 in London, Scotland and three times in mixed shows at the North House Gallery. This is her first solo show here and will include paintings as well as prints.
