North House Gallery is delighted to present a third solo exhibition of work by Esmond Bingham. It consists of a large number of new 3D constructions, both huge and tiny, in a variety of ordinary materials, and a small number of works on paper. Although essentially non-representational, his work is concerned with the physical, emotional and psychological language of everyday things.
"Working with simple everyday materials I try to notice and develop unexpected visual or structural opportunities. The resultant work is usually a conjunction of the material’s attributes and my preoccupations at that time. I rarely have any clear idea of what the work could be until a possible end point comes into view. Ultimately my simple aim is to make a work which is emotionally and/or intellectually of interest."
"One of the exciting aspects of a solo show is the opportunity to show a number of works together. In the studio I develop several quite different things alongside each other; ideas echo or re-emerge in various guises, sometimes humorously. Whilst each work is an entity in itself I hope this cross-fertilisation will form part of the interest as the visitor journeys round the exhibition." - Esmond Bingham 2022

He maintained his studio practice while teaching as a part-time lecturer at Chelsea Scool of Art and subsequently, until retirement, as Associate Senior Lecturer at Middlesex University.
