HELENGAI HARBOTTLE

Paintings and Drawings

North House Gallery is delighted to present this exhibition of recent work by Helengai Harbottle. It includes oil and acrylic painting inspired by landscape and buildings and charcoal drawings inspired by domestic vessels.

Helengai Harbottle has been a full time painter for over a decade. Between 1996 and 2002 she studied painting at the Slade School of Art, London, under the tutelage of Norman and Tom Norris, Jenny Saville, Lucy Jones Paul Richards, Andrew Stahl, Liz Arnold, Jo Volley and Euan Uglow, amongst others. While at the Slade she won the Monnington Prize and spent a semester at the New York Studio School in Manhattan.

Helengai’s move to the Slade marked the end of a successful career as a textile designer in the fashion business where she was known as an innovative pattern maker and colourist (MA Royal College of Art and winner of several awards). She was a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of Art for over ten years.

Previous exhibitions include solo shows at the Merchant House Gallery in Lowestoft in 2015 and 2017, a two person show at the Cut in Halesworth in 2016. Her work stood out in the open exhibition Inheritance at Norwich Castle Museum in 2018, which led to the connection with North House Gallery.
